During the Forum Sergey Bubka joined the plenary session as an expert to discuss can Europe still attract major sport events sharing his experience of Ukraine in organizing the most prestigious sporting events. "In 2012 Ukraine has once again demonstrated its magnificent hospitality and professional approach, having taken with Poland high-level finale of the European Football Championship. UEFA experts recognized UEFA EURO 2012 in Ukraine as one of the best in organizing similar tournaments," - he said, stressing that this contributes not only to popularizing sports in the country, but also positively influences the countries' economy, the formation of the heritage and the development of sports and in general social infrastructure.
As a member of the IOC Executive Board, Sergey Bubka also noted the great work of the International Olympic Committee to change the system of selection of host candidates for the Olympic Games. "Today, the IOC promotes and supports the desire of European and world cities to host the Olympic Games. Flexible system of applications submission and approval of the Olympic program has been introduced, the opportunity to host the Olympic competitions in several cities has been provided, an initiative on the creation of temporary sports facilities has been supported" - added Sergey Bubka.
During his speech, he emphasized the importance of engaging young people from activities in physical education and sports. "Statistics show that today the level of people involved in sports in the European countries is low. That is why it is very important to involve people in sports from the very childhood. Beginning with kindergarten, school years, the child should understand that health, a healthy lifestyle is the most important value of a person. By the way, there are excellent examples in this area when the physical education lesson in schools is held every day, as in Hungary," - said Bubka.
Olympic champion touched on an important topic regarding the role of athletes in the Olympic Movement: "In today's society athletes should not only show results in sports arenas, but also have an active social position, take leading positions in sports organizations, because the athletes are bright examples to follow for our youth, effective leaders of the Olympic values for the whole nation".
