For two days, the European Olympic community has been considering a number of important issues on the activities of the EOC, the last stage of preparations for the Olympic Games in Tokyo, the organization and holding of the European Games Krakow-Malopolska 2023. On the agenda there are also the approval of the hosts of the next EOC General Assemblies in 2022, 2023 and 2024, and reports on the EOC Strategic Agenda 2030 as well as the European Youth Olympic Festivals.
The key issues of the first day of the meeting were the elections of the EOC President and the new composition of the Executive Committee. According to the voting, Hellenic Olympic Committee President Spyros Capralos was elected as the 9th President of the European Olympic Committees
“I have been very proud to serve the EOC as a member of the Executive Committee. To now have the opportunity to lead the Executive Committee on behalf of you, the National Olympic Committees of Europe, is a very great privilege indeed. Your support means so much to me. I will be engaged, open minded, transparent, and a President for all nations,” Capralos said after the announcement of the results.
On behalf of the Ukrainian Olympic family, Sergey Bubka thanked the former EOC EC members, congratulated the new members of the Executive Committee headed by the newly elected President Capralos and wished successful implementation of ambitious plans for the development and popularization of the Olympic movement and sports, expressing hope for close cooperation.
“Regardless of what part of Europe we belong to, we must be consolidated and flexible to the challenges and changes that the present brings to become the strongest, most successful continent of the world Olympic family,” the NOC of Ukraine President said addressing the participants of the EOC anniversary meeting.
