SERGEY BUBKA APPOINTED AS MINSK-2019 COORDINATION COMMISSION MEMBER

Sergey Bubka, Ukraine’s National Olympic Commission President, is appointed to the EOC Coordination Commission for 2019 European Games in Minsk, Belarus. Bubka received an official letter of invitation from the EOC Acting President Mr. Janez Kocijancic.

Bubka commented on the appointed, saying ‘It is a great honour, for sure, and I appreciate Mr Kosijancic and the EOC trusted me. But I also take this appointment as huge responsibility, as European Games make their first steps towards what I would like to see as top Europe’s multisport event of every pre-Olympic year. International Olympic family is ready to share its experience of organization, promotion and marketing of a huge event like this. I will do my best help my colleagues from the EOC to continue the success of Baku 2015’.

Sergey Bubka, an IOC Executive Board member, has been a member of IOC Coordination Commissions for 2008 Summer Games in Beijing, China, and 2016 Summer Games in Rio, Brasil. Bubka has also chaired IOC Coordination Commission for inaugural 2010 Youth Summer Olympics in Singapore and is a member of Coordination Commission for 2020 Winter Youth Olympics in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Bubka, who is also IAAF Senior Vice President, chaired the IAAF Coordination Commissions for 2011 and 2013 World championships and was a member of the IAAF Evaluation Commission for 2015 World Championship.

The second edition of European Games will be hosted by Minsk, Belarus capital, between June 20th and 30th, 2019. Over 4000 athletes from 50 NOCs are expected to participate in 16 sports.
