Sergey Bubka, IOC Executive Board member, joined the celebration of the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace – initiative of the International Olympic Committee since 2015, supported by the United Nations, in order to demonstrate that sport can contribute to making a better world.

Bubka, Ukraine NOC President, has met the students of Ukraine’s National PT and Sport University who attended Committee’s HQ in Kyiv, discussing how sport can impact the process of global peacemaking and development. Mr Bubka and his young guests made a #WhiteCard  picture hashtaging #sport4betterworld in their social networks’ accounts to demonstrate their support of ISDP celebration.

Bubka shared his knowledge and ideas with young people saying, ‘The International Day of Sport for Development and Peace is a special one. Both you and me are privileged to be a part of unique Olympic movement, which is capable to unite millions of people through its universal values. The essence of sport is, firstly, physical and mental harmony of every person, and, second but not least, fair and peaceful competition’. Bubka added, ‘I am proud graduate of your University, and my message to you and your mates is that we count for you in the nearest future to become true professionals able to contribute to the development of sport and to promote Olympic values’.

The celebration events for IDSDP 2017 is under way all over the world including Ukraine where the NOC initiated workshops and lectures of Olympic athletes at schools and colleges, Olympic-themed quizzes and contests for kids and young people.
