The visit was dedicated to the European Championship-2020 that Ukrainian capital will host next year.
“Ukraine is a sporting state, open to the most prestigious international starts. Sport has the proper support from the state, in particular, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky. At various times, Ukraine constantly feels the strong shoulder of the International Olympic Committee, led by Thomas Bach, the Association of National Olympic Committees, and the European Olympic Committees. Over the past two years, our country has hosted the A1 Ice Hockey World Championships, the two adult European Championships and the World Youth Diving Championships, the European Boxing Championships, International Tournaments in Rhythmic Gymnastics, Wrestling, European Championship and Tour of Europe in Rugby and others. Earlier this year, Kyiv became the venue for the annual congress of the European Badminton Confederation. Now we are happy to support the initiative of the Ukrainian Badminton Federation to hold such a prestigious forum in Ukraine. This European Championship is also special because it will take place in the Olympic year, so we expect an interesting and intriguing battle”, - said during the meeting Sergey Bubka.
“We were already honored to be present in Ukraine during the Congress. It was one of the best in history and we are very pleased with the proper conditions and level of organization. This championship is the last stage of Olympic qualification for Tokyo-2020. And I believe that the European Championship in Kiev will also be the best”, - Brian Agerbak commented.
“We are very grateful to the European Badminton Confederation and to the National Olympic Committee, headed by Sergey Bubka, for the trust and continued support we have shown. Ukraine will host the European Championship for the first time in history, and we will do our best to make these competitions the best in the badminton era and the guests of our country will appreciate the Ukrainian hospitality and high level of organization” , - said the President of the Badminton Federation of Ukraine Oleksiy Dniprov.
