SERGEY BUBKA IS RE-APPOINTED AS MEMBER OF TWO IOC COMMISSIONS

Sergey Bubka, IOC Executive Board member, has been re-appointed as the Chair of the IOC Athletes' Entourage Commission (formerly Entourage Commission) and as member of the Coordination Commission for the 3rd Winter Youth Olympic Games Lausanne 2020.

Bubka received the letter signed by the IOC President Thomas Bach as a part of the process of annual review of the scope and composition of the IOC commissions, which was one of the recommendations of Olympic Agenda 2020, approved by the 127th IOC Session in December 2014 in Monaco.

Bubka who chairs Athletes’ Entourage Commission since 2010, commented, ‘It is great honour for me to receive these re-appointments for the IOC Commissions. We can see the importance of entourage for either professional sport and amateur and kids’ sport every given day, as coaches, managers, doctors and family members share both athlete’s achievements and responsibilities. Education of the entourage and establishing clear rules of its engagement into athletes’ lives is key important for the future of sport.  I see it as an evolutionary way to win over doping and other challenges. We achieved a lot in making entourage aware of their responsibility but we still have a lot more work ahead.

I am also happy about my involvement into the Coordination of Lausanne 2020 preparation. The city is iconic for the Olympic sport, while Youth Olympics open new era for our Movement. I am excited to share my experience as a Chair of Coordination Commission for the first ever Youth Olympics in Singapore in 2010 and looking forward to see Lausanne 2020 as best ever Youth Olympics’.

Sergey Bubka has been member of the IOC Executive Board as athletes’ representative between 2000 and 2008 and since 2012. He has also been member and Chair of the IOC Athletes Commission for 12 years. He has also been member of the IOC Disciplinary Commission in Athens 2004, Turin 2006 and Beijing 2008, Chair of Evaluation and then Coordination Commission for 2010 Summer Youth Olympics, member of Evaluation Commission for 2008 Games, member of Coordination Commissions 2008 and 2016 Olympics.

Bubka joined three more representatives of Ukraine’s Olympic Family who received their appointments to the IOC Commissions. IOC Member and Olympic champion Valery Borzov and Ukraine’s Olympic Academy President Maria Bulatova has been re-appointed as members of Culture and Olympic Heritage Commission. While Vera Perederii, 2008 Olympian in rhythmic gymnastics and Young Ambassador for 2016 Winter Youth Olympics has received her first appointment to the Olympic Education Commission.
